Advertising and promoting various products and services on forums is great and efficient if you do it correctly.

Make sure you join appropriate forums; make useful and valuable post; do not advertise directly, use signature links instead...

If you are new on some forum. It takes some time for getting start to advertise your product.
First of fall you have to normally introduce yourself then try to make participation on different topics with different peoples and help people who are looking to get know on something their relevant topics. And after some time you can add your Link in your signature and then you can promote your product to those who are interested. It's like process to follow and takes some time to take fly for advertising your product.
If you will do it in hurry or point your product to peoples forcefully ,You will be banned soon.
Signature plays a important role here.

Signature links are the appropriate way of promoting a product through forums. Signature link are accepted by Google. So, its the safer way to promote a business on forums.

Seems like most forums dont want you to promote a product of your own but you can have a signature.

I think you have to be the part of discussion for many forums and need to find the relevant people of your niche. You can promote your product or business by solving their issues and providing genuine information.

Agree with Allan , that "that's a shortsighted strategy if with your own site might be better."
But I was stupid ones like Allan said, helpful tips, thank you.

Getting a very good reputation on Forums is the first step. Then you can advertise your website through signature. Some Forums even have a section to advertise your Website or your product.

For most other members, it is obvious what you are doing and you will get called out. possibly banned and definitely ruin your credibility for some time to come.

The best way to promote products/services in forums is in the signature, other way is usually considered as SPAM

The key to forums, and any social media for that matter is to understand that you cannot go there to market anything. You have to become an active member of the community and give people reasons to want to see what you have to offer. Interact with people, offer advice, respond to posts and make your own threads like this one. People don't care how much you know until they know how much, you care, so take the time to build relationships. By default you will be able to not only recommend products at that point, but actually have people follow your links and view what you are offering.

You can check out Faq's first and then some forums allow sig. file at the end of your post.
