not really

I'd say no, it's not really something that helps people shop. The only place I've ever found background music on a website to be nice is if you're using a flash site... except no one builds a flash site for affiliate marketing... might be nice though, who knows?

I HATE websites that do music or sounds. First, the music is usually something I don't like, and second if I am at work, now everyone knows I am surfing the web.

If you want to see how quickly I can click the Back button, install Flash and/or music.

And while you are at it, don't forget the little butterflies that follow the cursor as you mouse around the page. :)

I wouldn't do it. Speaking from personal experience, I almost always click away from a site that has music auto-play when the page loads.

Yes, thumbs down on auto-play music, except perhaps on sites that are specifically about music, and even then, auto-play is probably best avoided.

But...

Anything that keeps visitors on your site, hooks their imagination, gets them talking about you, earns you a link, brings them back, is worth considering.

Multi-media can be a compelling hook sometimes, even if it's not directly on topic.

Please forgive me, or yell at me, but I just have to share a free gadget I made for this very purpose.

It's a free portable music video player, that can be added to your site, featuring home made music and music instruction from a variety of sources.

Now it's time for a trivia quiz! :-)

The first song displayed in the player is from a truly wonderful music movie that recently received global acclaim.

If you know the name of this movie, post it here and win a, um, hmm, let's see....

A free movie player for your site!

When I go to a site and hear music playing I immediately hit the Back button.

Music is rarely a good thing. Unless you are selling music, or musical goods.

Then, you make it optional to listen too (default to off).

Yeah if your are selling music.

If you are a musician or sell music it might help you to have your music playing. I never heard music on an e-commerce site, and it might cause your page to load slower, causing shoppers to leave.

Yeh most people find sudden music coming on when they click on a site startling and annoying. You could have an option where people can turn music on if they want it.

Music is not important for web site because every visitor come on your site according their requirement they don't think about you have a music on your site or not.

re music

Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:08 pm

I built a website for a musician with a helping message for addicts and their loved ones. We actually built 2 sites so that dial up users could read the message without the annoyance. Also I think if you put music on have a controller and let your vistor decide

I hate websites with songs. I`ll develop a music site soon, but it won`t have any background music...I think it drives people away
