How to get CJ affiliate link

Mon Aug 28, 2006 4:07 pm

Hi!
Maybe my question will be stupid but I really need some advice.
The problem is - I want to put links in my website to affiliate programs (from CJ) but they offer only html code. For example - I want to make word "Betfair" as a link to Betfair. I click insert link - and I need http:// address which CJ don't provide. They only have banners or text link in html. Where to get this http:// link?

Thanks,
Andy

Andy if you are using the Javascript code you have an option to change the linking text. If you are using the Legacy code you can also change the link text. Just don't screw around with the rest of the code and make sure you do not delete the tracking image code.

Some advertisers specifically state you can not alter the code.

In these cases it can be more difficult to work around the links but it can be done. Turn the link text into a normal reading sentance.

Yes it's more work but so is affiliate marketing. Spend some time in source screen of your html editor.

Thanks quest, but I think you didn't understand my problem.
I know how to change text link in html but I need url for those banners.
My english isn't good, so I don't know really how to explain it.
For example, I can't put html text link in word document - I need url, then I could create hyperlink.

Any advice please?
Thanks

You have to use their code in order for the links to track properly (So you get paid)

So open up their code for a links (Into a TEXT editor) and just alter what is between here

>put your text here</a>

For example:

<a href="http://www.tkqhe.com/1245859857" target="_top">Super Duper Golf Gear</a>

becomes

<a href="http://www.tkqhe.com/1245859857" target="_top">Whatever you want goes here</a>

Make sure you cut and paste the entire script and then change only the linking text between the anchor tags.

Some html editors add their own code and mess things up. MS WORD is not something you want to use to make webpages.

Hope this helps.

Are you trying to cloak the CJ click-through link?

I am confused too after reading your question.

Are you trying to 'CLOAK' meaning, displaying some other URL while it will eventualy redirect to CJ and then to the merchant website?

CLOAK means hidding the real value or link.

You see - I don't want to build website with MS Word:-)))
I want to write e-book with CJ affiliate links in it but Word doesn't accept html, that's why I need only url, like http://.................. to insert in this e-book.

Thanks

Copy only http:// part from the legacy link.
As in this example
For example:

<a href="http://www.tkqhe.com/1245859857" target="_top">Super Duper Golf Gear</a>

only part next to href= is your tracking URL
i.e http://www.tkqhe.com/1245859857

It works with legacy link but as I understand soon we will have to use java script only with CJ. But link from java script does not work that way...

That method will work, but there is no gaurantee you will be paid by CJ because you are in fact altering the code.

I'd advise you pose your question to CJ technical support. But don't expect a prompt answer. They have been pretty slow to answer questions lately. No point in creating an ebook with links that "might" work.

There have been plenty of tracking problems with CJ links all summer long. So much so that wise affiliate managers are sending emails and assuring their affiliates that they are implementing their own tracking and comparing to CJ so they don't lose the people that are really making them money.

I heard that CJ has no plan to discontinue legacy link.

As long as tracking code is there, CJ will not have any problem to pay you IMO.
